'65 Hendrix Monterey Stratocaster:
Accessories:
Included is a heavy gauge metal flight case, with plush
Surf Green lining. It also comes with a White ultra
suede gig bag with fringe and beads attached. It also
has Surf Green lining and trim, with the Custom Shop
logo on the front pocket. A matching strap for the bag
is included. There is a guitar strap that is also
matching White
ultra suede with trim and beads. Also included is a
White
leather portfolio that stores a picture of Jimi on
stage playing the original at the Monterey Pop
Festival, and a signed and numbered certificate
from
the Fender Custom Shop. A back stage pass on a lanyard
cord is
included, along with a coiled guitar cord with a 90
degree plug (the type Jimi used), and all the
regular Fender tools & manuals. Also, as mentioned
above, it comes with a extra string nut. This is
without a doubt, the nicest package Fender has ever put
out!

I
have
put together this site for all of you that just want to
know more about this model, as well as those of you
who are interested in a possible purchase. Please let
me know if you run across any problems in viewing this
page. Now, let's talk about Jimi & my guitar...
The memorable event that introduced a relatively
unknown Hendrix at his first major venue in North
America. He performed before a skeptical audience on
the same bill as The Who and The Grateful Dead, and
ended up stealing the night with his incredible
musicianship and flamboyant showmanship. From rumor to
legend in a single night. Earlier that day, Jimi went
to an area behind the stage and took with him a '65
Fiesta Red Stratocaster, an indian blanket, some
incense, candles, and an assortment of paints. In a
ceremony by himself, he painted the guitar that he
planned to sacrifice later that evening. "Sometimes
you
sacrifice the things you love, in the name of
love..."
On that night, during the song "Wild Thing", he
BURNED &
SMASHED his special guitar to the crowds
amazement!
This guitar is an exact recreation of the guitar he
played on that memorable night in Monterey...
Custom Shop Diamond Collectors Edition Serial #5;
This guitar is exactly
what he played that night, a
right handed model strung left handed. (a right
handed nut is included) It is an authentic 1965
model featuring a smaller, pre-CBS headstock
and the
transitional logo. It has a
rosewood fretboard, upon a
highly flamed maple neck and headstock. It has vintage
frets and vintage pick-ups with the gray bobbins. The
base finish is Fiesta Red, over which artist and
co-designer Pamelina Hovnatanian, has re-created the
wild psychedelic designs that Hendrix painted on the
body. Photos and film from the Monterey Pop
Festival was used as a guide, in addition to
eye witness accounts from performers like Eric Burden
who was there that night. Furthermore, Jimi's Saville
Theater guitar, also painted by Hendrix in the same
period, was carefully studied for more insight into his
unique painting style, use of colors and brush strokes.
The finish is flawless and absolutely gorgeous! Truly
a piece of fine art...
